Mrs. Shearer’s class will be taking part in using a blog to respond to text by utilizing a real and authentic audience. Students will be using a blog to post their writing to the Internet. Our Internet community includes our first grade classmates and their parents along with the Robert Moton Administration and staff.
A “blog,” or web blog is a special type of web page that provides an online space for collaboration and purposeful work. Blogs are designed to be simple to create and edit, while very powerful in their ability to promote collaboration and increase student involvement.
How it Works
Students will write entries for their blog based on content covered in the first grade curriculum as well as the Common Core State Standards. The emphasis is on the quality, not the quantity of what they write. When students are done polishing their writing, it will be reviewed by a teacher before it is published to the blog.
Having a real audience is one of the key components to this program. In addition to receiving comments from teachers and classmates, students might receive comments from parents and/or Robert Moton Administration that visit the blog.
This blog project is designed to provide a safe online environment for your child. The only personally identifying information included in the blog will be first names and last initials. Students are not allowed to post their age or other personal or identifiable information. This blog will be protected (or password protected) to control comments to it from the internet.
Before your child starts posting to the blog, it is important for you and your child to discuss and sign the Blog Terms and Conditions form. Please return the form to the teacher as soon as possible.
