Everyone was encouraged to carry a poem (either found or made up) in their pocket to share with others. We had 12 classes throughout the school visit with each other to share poems. It was a fun day that made poetry fun for all!!

All year long I celebrate reading, but in April, I not only get to celebrate with the students, but with their parents as well. There is something magical about families reading together. I should know, because I believe that I am a media specialist today because of my family and my dad in particular. My favorite memory as a child is cuddling up with my father and reading all of the Little House on the Prairie books. He read them all to me as I snuggled in. Even Farmer Boy, which wasn’t my favorite of the series, wasn’t so bad, because my dad was reading it to me. That is why I value Mechanicsville’s April Family Nights. This Breadmaking Night was made possible by the Carroll County Education Foundation, who thought the idea was good enough to support! I would like to thank them for supporting the Mechanicsville Media Center!!

Here is a slideshow of Family Breadmaking Night. I was pleased to see how many dads came! I hope you enjoy the pictures and I hope you enjoyed your bread! I enjoyed my bread with my mom and dad that night!

It was a special day for Michael as his whole class came to cheer him on. Can you believe how speedy Becca has gotten? Just about two years ago she was in a wheelchair! Everyone at Mechanicsville Elementary is proud of Michael and Becca!

They truly transformed the world around them into a wild adventure. Through this video, I hope you get a taste of all the hard work the students and staff put into this great experience.

By the way, I overheard many older students comment: “Why didn’t we do this when we were in first grade?!?”
