The Internet has introduced several new ways for people to communicate, and one of them is through a blog. A blog ( or Web Log) is an online series of entries that reflect a person’s ideas, opinions and views. It is important for students to be introduced to the workings of a blog at this age because blogs encourage students to:
- Share their opinions and ideas with their classmates and teachers in an authentic and modern way
- Ask questions or share ideas that will make readers think and want to respond
- Model appropriate and safe online behavior through teacher participation and monitoring
- Make connections to their reading and learning by exploring what others have written
- Strive for writing that matters
- Understand that Internet technology is an extention of the classroom
